According to the type of work being performed and the intended use of the data, four categories have been defined that vary the level of detail and rigor prescribed for a particular QAPP (US EPA, 1993). This document was prepared for a Category II Project: Complementary Support to Rulemaking , Regulatory, or Policy Decisions. Such projects are of sufficient scope and substance that their results could be combined with those from other projects of similar scope to provide the necessary information for decisions. USERV20 01-DEC-03 1 ZZZZZZZZ 2 ZZZZZZZZ TSMNHD DESCTEXT The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a geospatial dataset that contains information about surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs and wells. It supports mapping of these surface water features, linking water-related data to the NHD drainage network, and traversing the network upstream or downstream to analyze these linked data. Within the NHD, the surface water features are combined to form "reaches", which provide the addressing framework for linking data to the NHD in a manner similar to assigning street addresses. The NHD is based upon the content of the U.S. Geological Survey's Digital Line Graph (DLG) hydrography data integrated with reach-related information from the EPA Reach File Version 3 (RF3). Users of DLG or RF3 will find the National Hydrography Dataset both familiar and greatly expanded and refined. For information on how to link Storet monitoring sites to the National Hydrography Dataset, see http://www.epa.gov/waters/storet.html. USERV20 01-DEC-03 92 DEMOTEST TSMPROJ MSRMNTQL 1. In some areas, stations will be located along onshore/offshore transects, while others are located on randomly chosen coordinates within a grid scheme. At each water quality sampling will be conducted quarterly, beginning in 1995, and will continue over several years. Measurements will include temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and depth as determined in the field with the "Sea Bird" CTD device. Water samples will be collected with a Niskin Sampler and analyzed for physical descriptors, nutrients, and biological characteristics as noted in the full plan. Determine the sources of pollution causing or contributing to existing or anticipated pollution problems in the Bay and its estuaries. 2. Evaluate the effectiveness of efforts to reduce or eliminate those sources of pollution. 3. Evaluate progress toward achieving and maintaining water quality standards and toward protecting and restoring the fisheries, shell-fisheries and other living resources of the Bay. A monitoring program has been developed consisting of three main elements: water quality monitoring, sediment monitoring, and taxonomic diversity/richness monitoring. An overall goal is to understand linkages between pollution sources and ecological problems. STORET 22-JUN-98 1 DEMOTEST 2 DEMOTEST TSMPROJ PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to identify and provide recommendations for correction of exiting water quality deficiencies in the Wicomico River. Water column chemistry, fish and macroinvertebrate communities will be studied. Point and non-Point sources will be identified. Inputs from these sources will be identified, characterized, and estimated as to their contribution to surface water quality.
