101 DEMOTEST TSMPROJ PURPOSE This Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) was prepared in accord with the guidelines presented in EPA Requirements for Quality Assurance Project Plans for Environmental Data Operations (EPA QA/R-5), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Quality Management Staff. According to the type of work being performed and the intended use of the data, four categories have been defined that vary the level of detail and rigor prescribed for a particular QAPP (US EPA, 1993). This document was prepared for a Category II Project: Complementary Support to Rulemaking , Regulatory, or Policy Decisions. Such projects are of sufficient scope and substance that their results could be combined with those from other projects of similar scope to provide the necessary information for decisions. 9 DEMOTEST TSRGRCFG SPECIFIC This is a highly modified Otter Trawl, it was customed designed by the Manning Scientific & Correctional Facility Supply Company, it incorporates the exclusive "Manning Escape Proof" feature. The main body of the net is contructed of #9 twine, 1-1/2" str. mesh and bag of the trawl is made of #18 twine, 1-1/2 " str. mesh. Both of these panels are dipped in commercial grade green net dip to increase net life. The top and bottom lines of the trawl extend 4' and are attached through holes at the back of the trawl doors. The top line of the trawl opening is constructed 3/8" PolyDac line and has four floats (PVC foam, 2-1/2 " dia., 1-1/2" long) spaced along its entirety. The bottom line of the trawl mouth is constructed of 3/8" PolyDac line and is weighted by a 6 ft length of 1/4" chain. The doors are pentagonal in shape and are made of 3/8" marine plywood and weighted with a steel bar (iron) along the inside length. The doors measure 36" along their outer edge, 18" along their back, and 31 " along the inside edge where the irons are located. Each door is outfitted with four chains that are attached to the door at one end and joined with a shackle at the other. The distance between the trawl doors is kept constant with the aid of a 25' long tickler chain. A #35 Delta 1/8" knotless nylon mesh liner is sewn at the mouth of the bag and tapers to the end of the bag. The bag is 10 ft long with the linner running the entire length. 93 DEMOTEST TSMPROJ DSGNDESC The water quality monitoring program will consist of surveys during which in-field water quality parameters will be measured and samples will be collected for laboratory analysis of nutrient and biological characteristics. In some areas, stations will be located along onshore/offshore transects, while others are located on randomly chosen coordinates within a grid scheme. At each water quality sampling will be conducted quarterly, beginning in 1995, and will continue over several years. Measurements will include temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and depth as determined in the field with the "Sea Bird" CTD device. Water samples will be collected with a Niskin Sampler and analyzed for physical descriptors, nutrients, and biological characteristics as noted in the full plan. 1 DEMOTEST TSMPROJ PURPOSE This project has 3 specific objectives: 1. Determine the sources of pollution causing or contributing to existing or anticipated pollution problems in the Bay and its estuaries. 2. Evaluate the effectiveness of efforts to reduce or eliminate those sources of pollution. 3. Evaluate progress toward achieving and maintaining water quality standards and toward protecting and restoring the fisheries, shell-fisheries and other living resources of the Bay. A monitoring program has been developed consisting of three main elements: water quality monitoring, sediment monitoring, and taxonomic diversity/richness monitoring. An overall goal is to understand linkages between pollution sources and ecological problems. STORET 22-Jun-1998 03:33:05 PM     1 DEMOTEST
2 DEMOTEST TSMPROJ PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to identify and provide recommendations for correction of exiting water quality deficiencies in the Wicomico River. Water column chemistry, fish and macroinvertebrate communities will be studied. Point and non-Point sources will be identified. Inputs from these sources will be identified, characterized, and estimated as to their contribution to surface water quality. STORET 12-Jun-1998 10:09:35 AM     2 DEMOTEST

2 ZZZZZZZZ TSMNHD DESCTEXT The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a geospatial dataset that contains information about surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs and wells. It supports mapping of these surface water features, linking water-related data to the NHD drainage network, and traversing the network upstream or downstream to analyze these linked data. Within the NHD, the surface water features are combined to form "reaches", which provide the addressing framework for linking data to the NHD in a manner similar to assigning street addresses. The NHD is based upon the content of the U.S. Geological Survey's Digital Line Graph (DLG) hydrography data integrated with reach-related information from the EPA Reach File Version 3 (RF3). Users of DLG or RF3 will find the National Hydrography Dataset both familiar and greatly expanded and refined. For information on how to link Storet monitoring sites to the National Hydrography Dataset, see http://www.epa.gov/waters/storet.html. USERV20 01-Dec-2003 12:00:00 AM
