6.5 Improvements/Changes to 2023 NEI

The 2023 NEI reports the emissions from agricultural lands and non-agricultural lands differently from the 2020 NEI. In the 2020 NEI, emissions from agricultural and non-agricultural lands are represented by a single SCC (i.e., “Total Fertilizers”) whereas in the 2023, emissions are tabulated using two separate SCCs (agricultural land and non-agricultural lands). This improvement more accurately quantifies anthropogenic and biogenic emissions.
