Section 6 Nonpoint Overview

This section includes an overview of all sources that are in the nonpoint data category, including biogenics, fires, including wildfires, prescribed burning, and agricultural field burning. These sources are reported at the county level, though some sources such as shipping lanes and ports are more-finely resolved to the county/shape identifier (ID) (polygon) level. Stationary sources that are inventoried at facilities and stacks (coordinates) are discussed in the Point section of this TSD. This section discusses the process by which all sources in the Nonpoint inventory are gathered for the 2023 NEI; methodology documentation into each component of the nonpoint data category (e.g., residential wood combustion, road dust, etc…) is discussed in separate sections that follow. Some “nonroad” mobile sources such as trains and commercial marine vessels reside and are discussed here in the nonpoint data category, not in the Nonroad Equipment section of this TSD.
